The standard policy is to ask anyone who looks under a certain age.

Asking absolutely everyone regardless of whether or not it’s blatantly obvious they’re old enough to buy alcohol is just being incredibly silly.

The guy acted like a tool, but the store did as well.

To dig deeper into the greater issue at stake here, it is not the fact that the guy didn't give any ID nor did the shop staff show any sort of common sense, but the weight of legislation that now rules and directs our lives.

Absurdity now takes precedence over common sense as it is so much easier to accept a decision from someone further up a chain of command than to make one that is "more than my job's worth".

But they can't discriminate against someone on the basis of age. If they were roudy or causing trouble and so on they could, but on the sole basis of age. In Ireland at least. That's why the night clubs are open for all 18 year olds and older.

I'm sure they're not, but they'll have to show a good reason if you took them to court I'd suspect. "He looked too young, or too old, or too black to serve", wouldn't be a good enough reason.

I don't know, how do people usually take people to court? if the British courts won't do anything, I'm sure the European courts would take action.
