Me and my mates discussed it yesterday: in golf is it a actual rule that the players have elegant clothes on? I mean in Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler had "normal" clothes on, but would that be aloowed in real world?
As other have said, most courses still insist you wear a collared shirt and no trainers/football shirts/jeans.
Players like Tiger Woods have started to change this in major competitions wearing there own label clothes which are tidy, but not collared, like they ask for.
Most council owned courses will allow you to wear anything, as will some more forward thinking clubs that are not run by snobs.
The club I work at allow the golfers to wear what they want, it makes for a more down to earth environment and encourages younger people to play the game.
