This router i have worked fine on XP, and since getting a new computer i just plugged it in and have been able to connect to the internet. However, ive tried setting up a network but it just wont let me with this router, as it doesnt notice its even there.
The network that already appears to be set up is connected via a Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) and i have no idea what this is, my router is a D-link router. I just aint happy about it and dont feel that its really secure, also its a pain as i keep getting boxes appearing asking me to connect through the internet, via some other connection which wont accept my isp details. Did anyone else have any similar problems? If so, how did you get round it?
During writing this, Vista recognised i had something connected for setting up a network, but i have to enter in the details through a website. I have a look but it will reset all the settings in my router and i really dont trust it to work with how things are going.

That's your onboard network card </BLOCKQUOTE>
okay, thanks. Would it be okay to carry on just using the net like this then, or would it be best to try and sep it properly? So that the computer is aware of the router, and actually allows me to set up a network?
I just had a look on the computer upstairs. That just had a USB network thing plugged in so that its able to connect to the network and that works fine. Is there anything i need to do then really? I just dont really like it that im not able to create a new network and start from scrtach, than just using the router and not having to set anything up.

If your worried about security then just enter its address in explorer and make sure its on.
That is one of my main concerns really. Is that the address of the router? I dont even know what it is, or how to find it Not to good with all this network stuff. Anyone able to tell me how to get it?
Click Start > Run > Type 'cmd' > Type 'ipconfig' in the box > The Router address should be the defualt gateway. Well it is on mine at least.
