Click Start then run
type cmd and click ok
when a black "dos window" open then type ipconfig
Press enter

You should see an ip address like

192.168.1.xxx
or
192.168.2.xxx

under "default gateway"

This is the address you need to type into IE/firefox to access the router.

Its normally

192.168.1.1
or
192.168.2.1

try those first.

I typed in the ip address, and it then asked me for the username and password. Once entered, it took me to the page where your able to enter the settings for the router. Does this mean that it is secure then?

No, you need to ensure that Wireless is either off if you dont want wireless or that it has at least WEP or WPA enabled with a passkey.

Read the manual that came with the router (or download it from the manufacturers website)

Ive done that and thats all sorted. I would like to get into internet shopping on this pc, but want to make sure it is secure. As my router should be secure now, and i have the windows firewall on (tests ive done say its secure) should that be all okay now then?

No, cause Windows firewall is on your own pc , not the router.

Have you enabled WEP/WPA if you have wireless?
