Harbour Plaza Metropolis is in Hung Hom ? Defo Excelsior over that then. You're some way from things in Hung Hom. No MTR there (when i was there), can get a few ferries but nothing like the schedule of main Star Ferry piers and a bit of a trek to or Jordon/Yah Ma Yei (maybe ?) MTR from Hung Hom

Isn't Hung Hom where the HKFA are based? Seem to remember going up there to do some coaching. It is a bit out of the way, although there are (infrequent) buses.

Not sure if HKFA are there but as you are basically going up Nathan Road leaving TST, going Jordan, Yah Ma Tei ... it kind of juts off to the left towards the water IIRC. Defo no MTR but obviously, being HK, great bus links. Maybe not the best if you're not familiar with the whole mini bus thing though

Excelsior is probably the best one out of the lot. doesnt say much though because none of the four would be my choice of stay in hong kong.

Okay thanks, looks like I'm not going then, as those are the only hotels available in my budget with the deal with Virgin.
Am not sitting in cattle class for 12 hours tbh.

Gav and Razzler have said everything I was going to stay. The Excelsior is easily the best hotel from that list in terms of location and everything else. It's 4 star, part of the Mandarin Oriental group (not Marriott).
Hong Kong Island is more cosmopolitan. In my opinion the nightlife is better.
Kowloon is more Chinese, good for shopping and walking around. Depends what your priorities are. For sure, all the best bars and clubs are on HK Island.
Also, with the US Dollar currently so weak (HK Dollar is pegged to it) you will find everything cheaper. It's at least half the price of London.

just had a look at tripadivsor about hotels in hong kong. it looks like excelsior is better than i thought. it has 700 odd room and a decent rating from the people who stay there before. you should have a look at it before you made any decisions.
