I've always had a soft spot for Bernard Cornwell, he used t obe pretty much my favourite author until I was 15 or 16.

Sansom is pretty good, as fiction set in that era goes. Has more understanding of the Tudor mindset than any of the assorted Alisons who write awful fluff about Henry VIII.
