| Well like, considering hte fact that universities use them as part of hte basis for their decisions and considering the fact the people in this thread want to go to the best university available to them, it really does matter.

theboydonegood - you have to make sure a personal statement is at least of a good standard, as everyone else's will be, a bad one and they will chuck your application in an instant.
just started writing mine btw! |

I have to get my Personal Statement 1st draft handed into my school this week and i was just wondering what you guys thought of this as my plan.
1st Paragraph - Trying to get my enthusiasm for the subject(Politics) across.
2nd Paragraph - Linking how my other two subjects(Economics & History) to politics and how they have helped me develop useful skills for the subject.
3rd Paragraph - Extra curricular activities some relevent some not so relevent and mentioning the skills i have developed from my job(Waitrose) into school life.
4th Paragraph - Rounding the statement off.
OTF, have i missed anything crucial out? Some people at my school are putting cheesy quotes into thier statements while others have hat loads of extra curricular experience that is actually relevent to their subject.
Thanks.
| Say something like "I have picked up invaluable skills int he tertiary sector such as..." opposed to "I have picked up lots of skills at Watirose such as how to stack shelves and be shouted at by members of the public", although I'm sure the kind of customers who shop at Waitrose wouldn't dare shout at you...they'd just take the time to fill out a complaint slip and pop it in the suggestions box.

Having done sod all extra-curricular stuff, but being generally pretty ace, my personal statement was just a but of gushing prose about why French philosophy has made me the historian I am today.
Worked a charm.
