as in general life, people drink more than they can handle. probably not their intention to be utterly paralytic during the game. or not for most anyway.

Nearly always have 3/4 beers before a game. The effect soon wears off.
Only v.drunk during a match once and that was an accident. First half flew by, went to the toilet at h/t and couldn't find my seat as I'd borrowed a season ticket in an unusual spot. By this time I'd sobered up a fair bit so stood in a tunnel watching the second half. Phoned my mate but it was too noisy for him to hear and he was more drunk. A steward took pity and gave me a spare seat.
Sat on a train full of away fans all the way back to London. My mate was convinced he'd got the train back with me, so god knows how he got home.

I have never had a drink at the game, mainly because I just dont really see the point, I guess I only really drink when on a night out, otherwise I dont bother
