OK so my GF's parents have split up because of an affair. Does anyone have any experiences of this? If so what was it like for you being in a relationship with her whilst she was dealing with this. My GF is 24 by the way.
Obviously i want to be there for her but at the same time she is telling me that her veiws on relationships and trust have changed (i guess for obvious reasons). I am kind of expecting a bit of a freeze-out. Should i?
Any experiences with this would be greatly appreciated
Who left whom? And is your gf taking sides at all?
Frankly it's a bit of a bugger of a situation. There ain't a great deal you can do other than be understanding, and remember that the ramifications will not be over in a flash.
parents splitting up is sh*t. My mum and dad were having a load of problems last year and i turned into a miserable alcoholic. Drinking every night cos i couldn't stand being at home and got into loads of debt.
They sorted it out but I was still skint
But just be there when she needs you. Carry on as normal I say, but maybe be a bit more understanding if she gets cranky??
I would say it *should* be easier on her as she is old enough to understand the whole situation & it won't be as easy as her parents to try & poison her against the other.
Mine split up when I was quite young & so I don't really remember much of it. I just spent a week living with each as they refused to make us choose wh owe wanted to live with.
But yeah, good luck trying to stay with her as she will probably want to know where you are 24/7 now.
