oh right, yeah there is a lot more potential with the maxi, but then again £7k wont get into the property part so it wouldnt get that high a %.
£3k Mini ISA, and then £4k in a term deposit would be the safest bet with a decent return.

Right, I'm just about to knock £3000 into a NS&I direct isa. Just checking though, provided I have the funds in my account (which I do), can I use my Maestro card to make the £3000 deposit?

ISA is tax free and that is why the interest looks lower than other savings accounts. But you are better off with a Mini ISA.
If you are in for the long haul, invest in a Mini-ISA with shares in a medium-high risk portfolio.
I'd go for India/China investment - or a portfolio with strong emphasis on commodities.

It all depends on if he wants to take lot, some, little or no risk in losing some money. With it only being a small investment i doubt they would offer a high risk option.

| Should imagine so but might be worth phoning your bank in advance to let them know so they don't flag it as a fradulent transaction & your card is refused.

I'm not really in it for the long haul tbh, chances are I'll be looking about some of this money in a year or two when I go travelling, but I would like to get some return on it in the meantime.

you should seek some independent financial advice do not go to any financial advisor tied to an organisation.
You are also better with a stocks and shares ISA as shares generally outperform interest bearing accounts.

| You can take a higher risk option. The default scheme is usually the FTSE100 tracker. There are much better schemes than that at the moment.
