Happened in my first student house, except that I came home whilst they were looking around. I had no clue they were coming as my housemates didn't tell me. Scared the life out of me as I walked in the door, no landlord in sight, she just turned up, gave them a key and left.
Wasn't really happy about all that.
Then again, she wasn't there when we viewed it, actually only saw her once in a year, she came round trying to get money from me for a hole in the wall which was there before I moved in.

Estate agents are bad people, so make it as tricky as you can for them. Unless you benefit from a new tenant coming in, that is.
