The new American TV shows pilot thread *with spoilers*
So, the pilots for next seasons shows have started to trickle out and we need a place to discuss them.
Sarah Connor Chronicles - The pilot has supposedly been recalled to allow for some pretty heavy handed editing, due to the in-school violence on show during the episode. Filmed before the Virginia Tech massacre, it's now seen as bad taste to show it so that whole scene may be cut. Which is a pity as it's quite good.
The show itself seems pretty solid judging from what's on show here. Lena Headey struck me as an odd choice for Sarah, especially after Linda Hamilton in T2 and I was pretty unimpressed with her to begin with. As the episode unfolded she really grew into it though, and by the end she seemed right.
It's a bit early to judge Thomas Dekker, mostly because John doesn't actually do much.
Summer Glau is her usual adorable yet ass kicking self. Plus she looks awesome naked.
I know a few folks have complained about the time travel aspects but imo they are needed to fit the new timeline plot after the events of T2. Just a pity they couldn't bring that gun with them
Reaper - Enjoyed this, a comedy which actually made me laugh. American shows have struggled to raise more than a smile the past few years, Scrubs being an obvious exception. Decent enough concept, with plenty of opportunities for hilarity and high jinks. Supporting cast seems quite strong, Ray Wise really quite good as Satan. Comparisons to Dead Like Me are obvious but this seems different enough to stand on it's own.
Bionic Woman NBC's "great white hope" for next season, and I'm sorry, but it doesn't much impress. Sure, Michelle Ryan looks great running at top speed in a loose, low cut top and an unsupportive bra, and the fight scene between Katee Sackhoff has the same effect, with the pouring rain and their tight outfits. The show will need more than sex appeal to succeed though. Ryan's American accent isn't too bad, and the special effects, Like Sarah Connor Chronicles, are brilliant for TV, but this just seems to lack any real plot. I just didn't really care about any of the characters, and found myself simply urging Ryan and Sackhoff to fight again. I really hope this picks up, because NBC need something.
Anyway, thoughts from anyone else who has seen these, or anything else?

I think the (what seemed like) 30 minute trailer for Bionic was enough for me. I'm normally prepared to give things a chance but there wasn't one thing in that preview that grabbed me.
I might give Sarah Connor a go. Quite liking the gap in TV shows atm though. Catching up on other things.

Californication - This really was quite good. And not just for the large amount of nudity. The humour was rather quite good, Duchovny was rather excellent as the classic anti-hero. Certainly plenty in the thirty minutes or so that I saw to see potential for the future, with plenty of plot twists evident.
Chuck - Hovi loved this, I didn't. Don't get me wrong, it was really quite good, it certainly had it's moments, and there's enough there to carry forward for at least a season. However, it all felt a bit "benn there, done it before". I, probably quite unfairly, found myself comparing it to Jake 2.0. Hopefully it will do enough to distance itself from that, and quickly, because Jake bombed. Captain Awesome has potential though, although we could lose the generic best friend.
