Yh so i picked up my cat and found this weird thing on the back of its neck, i saw a couple of legs wiggling on it so pulled it off my cat. It has a body about the size of a baked bean and about 6 very small legs on one end of it as well as what I assume must be its face ( a little too small to tell ) Its body is grey and very large compared to it's legs and face, which are red. Anyone happen to know what it is? I assume its some kind of tick as it was obviously feeding on my cat ( it left a nasty bite mark on my cat ) but I would just like to be sure.
Sounds like a tick, you shouldn't just pull them out alcohol or parrafin first will make it lose its grip making it easy to take out , and less chance of infection
My cat had to be shampooed (?) when he had ticks. He didn't like it to the extent that he embedded his claws in my dad's cheek. How he got through the beard I'll never know, but it looked seriously painful.
As you removed the tick with your fingers its possible that the mouth parts of the tick are still in your cat and that will cause an infection.
You might have to use a needle that's been sitting in boiling water for a few minutes and then probe the tick wound on your cat to make sure that it's clear. You will end up being badly scrathed by your cat, but that's much better then an expensive vet's bill.
There is that cat "Spot On" treatment that is flea and tick repellent. Perhaps that might be a good option to use in the future and very easy to administer.
