As for the benefits of the Licence, i'm not convinced of the neccessity, but once you introduce the rule it then seems barmy to just waive it every time someone doesn't meet the criteria.

Hasn't he managed the national team of Israel?
You would have thought the license would be a bit standard to take on a national team job.

| That's what I see it as as well, but then it still is an issue for Chelsea as they have no influence over Israel's decision to sign up to the UEFA scheme.
That's my take on the situation anyway.

Because the FA want to maintain a certain quality in the league, and thus need a standard to measure the quality of managers. Same reason you need a license to practice anything really.
| but Chairmen are hardly going to recruit crap managers. They want the best managers they can being in the premiership.
But, guess I see the case if Grant has had a fair period to actually get it.

It's like all rules really. If you're big and powerful enough you get a way out.
Btw, the UEFA licence is a seperate licence that is above any nation's top coaching badge/licence. There should be no way that Israel's top licecse can be a UEFA Pro equivalent.
If they rule this then it basically means any top level coach who took the UEFA Pro licence didn't need to, and that any future top level coach doesn't need the licence to either, ergo, what's the friggin' point of the rule in the first place?

In my profession this is similar to the requirement in Scotland that you be an Advocate or Solicitor-Advocate before you are entitled to appear in the Court of Session.
I could be a lawyer for 50 years and be very successful in the Sheriff Court and private practice, but without either of those qualifications I would not be permitted to appear in the CofS.
I think the rule should be applied in the EPL more stringently, and I notice that from 2010 it will be.

1. Freddy Shepherd
2. Even the chairmen that actually care about the club aren't always the best judges of ability, ergo the FA employs a standard that is supposed to ensure a minimum level of quality. Whether or not it does is another matter.
