Because it would take away viewers from Sky owned channels.
More viewers -> More money.

With sky showing TNG, Enterprise (and lately voyager) and Sci-fi showing TOS, i'm gonna assume that they have DS9 (or atleast hope so)

True but I thought the idea was to draw customers away from Sky all together and get Virgin?
It also doesn't look too good on the face of it when Sky won't let Virgin show their channels but its ok the other way around?

| You're confusing Sky and Virgin the television providers and Sky and Virgin (inc UKTV stable, Living and others) the channel providers.
They are two different revenue streams and the programming side's worth is based on how many viewers they can attract.

I agree with the hope. I doubt any of the others you mentioned would have been bought exclusively by the channels you mentioned, however, so would all be possibilities.

Sky's decision to pull Sky One etc shows that you can't pretened those two streams are completely independent of each other.

buying up The Riches, starring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard;
| I really enjoyed that :thup:. Alright I'm an Izzard fan, so I was always going to approach it favourably, but I did think it was entertaining.

I didn't say they were independent of each other, just different revenue streams.
Sky pulling off Virgin channels was an attempt to reduce the quality of Virgin's total TV package offering, which they hoped would detract customers from switching/ signing up to Virgin.
But by doing so they also have taken a massive hit on the number of viewers they now get on Sky1 and SSN and hence a drop in revenue.
Ad revenue for Sky is just the icing on a very tasty subscription cake.

| And the point that litstbts was obviously making was, why aren't Virgin doing the same in return? The fact that there are two revenue streams is completely irrelevant to that unless you were claiming independance.
So you were either pointless or wrong. Which are you going for?
