I noticed last night that my fav bunnys eyes were swollen and weepy and he had a bad tummy so took him to the vet today and he has been diagnosed with myxomatosis!
With only been given a 5% chance of survival i am not very hopeful tbh (vet said he was in the process of treating another rabbit atm that looks like he is getting better, but all others have died)
Has anyone ever had a bunny whos caught this? Can anyone give me any helpful advice (I dont want to hear eat him!) Prob is we are due to fly out on holiday on weds and i dont know how i will cope if he dies while i am gone. So so upset atm.
To any otfers out there, please get your rabbit immunised before its too late, i wish i had

There is a jab they can have to protect them from it, but not sure if thats before they catch it
Unfortunately its too late Paul, it would apparently do him more harm than good now. He has antibiotics that i have to syringe into his mouth twice a day but that is to prevent the secondary infection (pneumonia) not cure this one.

Cant remember if our rabbit had the jab or not, didnt die from that anyway. Was always told its the worse thing a rabbit can catch
Like Kris said just give them as much attention as possible, if yours was anything like ours its an attention seeker little bugger. I miss ours

Prognosis for yours isnt good Im afraid. Best thing to do is keep him/her warm and try to show him/her attention as much as possible.
Ifd the vet hasnt given you a very powerful antibio script then get the animal put down as the suffering from this disease is immense.
Not from me btw, my mum worked as a vet for quite a few years.
Thanks Kris, rest assured i will be looking after him to the best of my ability and i will not be letting him suffer. Atm we have a glimmer of hope as he is still eating (he dug out his food bowl earlier as he usually does) and has just eaten 2 grapes (which are his fav) his breathing is also still ok.
Been reading some websites and seeing some horrific pics but some have pulled through with a lot of love and care. I currently have a eucaliptus oil (and water) in an oil burner in the room hes in - this was recommended by the site where bunnies have recovered. Willing to try anything tbh
my sister's puppy was apparently hours away from dying due to tapeworms it contracted whilst with its previous owner when it was about 10 weeks old.
for 2 days it looked like she was going to die (even the vet said its looking grim & it was probably in one of the worst states he'd seen a puppy in) by the 3rd day she'd finally gotten better, on the 4th day we went and picked her up-1st thing the little bugger does is try to take on a 6-7ft Newfoundland
basically its a bit of luck a lot of hope and the animal responding well enough but it is possible to beat very slim odds
Remember where my dad used to work there was a warren of wild rabbits outside. They all caught it & they had to bring in pest type people to have them all put down because they were randomly wandering into the premises which wasn't hygenic. Mixamatosis is the one that sends them blind isn't it?
Not looking good but 5% is better than 0% I guess.
