Looking after young children - what is reasonable ? Post #11 | | Registered User

My little one is 10 months old. So at the moment i'm not in a position to say whether I allow him to be out on his own or not.
But in my opinion I would like to know where he is at all times. My mum always let me do things without her as long as she knew where I was and who I was with. I think she earned my trust by doing this. I will probably be the same.
I completely disagree with the McCanns leaving Maddie while they went for a pi$$ up with their friends. It is so irresponsible I have no sympathy for them at this moment in time. Maybe that's a little strong but it is how I feel.

Hahaha, Bouncerboy such a bitter mong. Still sore that I talked about the comics in the Heroes thread. Wait until I tell you about this week's.....
Brandon goes out to play, unsupervised, if the weather is decent enough. He's 6. However, we do have some ground rules. He has to stay where I can see him from the windows (in the garden or out on the back green), he's not allowed near the roads, and if he is going into someone's home, he has to let me know, so I know where he is. Doesn't seem unreasonable really, and he's had no problem keeping to them, in the main. I wouldn't do what the McCanns did, for reasons the McCanns are now all too aware of. I also wouldn't leave Brandon in a overly dangerous situation unsupervised (ie in a swimming pool). I'm not sure what the story is with regards to that one though, haven't been following the news much in the last week.
So, in conclusion, Bouncerboy is a mong.

| I agree. As I said in the Maddie thread, I don't understand as to why the McCann's haven't been called into question more on why they did this. Perhaps it is to do with their background as much as anything.

| What?
They've been roundly criticised iirc.

I wouldnt leave my kids on their own in a hotel room at their current ages. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I suppose it comes from from my parents doing it when we were younger. We'd be on the 6th floor of a hotel and they'd be in the hotel restaurant, tbf I see no problem with that if you check up on them

I won't let my nephew play in my garden without someone watching over him.

Perhaps they have - I was merely responding to what I had seen/read.

the real question is why the word maddie is in inverted commas in the opening post.
do you think she's some kind of fake, possibly cybernetic child, bg?

See that represents way too much risk imo.
Like I said in the police thread though Im very over protective of my kids, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

I agree with the good Father tbh, would never ever dream of leaving kids on their own in a hotel room or the likes whilst i swanned off and did something else.
