I posted this a few days ago & thought it was fixed but it's not working anymore. I cannot use several tools in the Toolbox: Clone Stamp Tool, Healing Brush Tool, Dodge, Burn, Sharpen, Blur, Etc. It seems that the only thing that will work is the Crop Tool. I've uninstalled & reinstalled several times. I've done Ctrl, Alt, Shft to delete the settings. I had a response from someone telling me to go into Mode>RGB & make certain RGB was checked. I did that & it worked for one session allowing me enough time to edit 6 photos. However, when I reopened Photoshop (CS) and attempted to edit more photos, none of the above mentioned tools worked. I've purchased new versions of this & it doesn't fix anything. Can someone PLEASE help me again.

Are the pictures you are touching up off the internet? Sometimes they are INDEXed.
If the picture is in INDEX mode you can't do much to it...you have to
change it to RGB before working it.

I know that sometimes your preference file becomes currupt and you need to reset your preference file. Got this off the net.

"How Do I Replace The Preferences File?
In Photoshop 7, replacing the Prefs is as easy as pressing down Command-Option-Shift (Mac) or Control-Alt-Shift (Windows) immediately after you start launching Photoshop 7. (Don't hold down the modifier keys before you launch, press them immediately afterward and hold them down until you see the dialog box.) You'll be asked if you want to delete the "Adobe Photoshop Settings File." Rather than replacing the Photoshop Prefs file, this replaces the entire Settings folder, include Color Settings, Actions, ToolPresets, and all of the other settings files.

Rather than losing all of your settings, you can manually replace just the Prefs file:

Quit Photoshop.
Locate the Adobe Photoshop Prefs file.
Delete the file.
Restart Photoshop.
Reset your Preferences.
Reload any custom palettes."
