Any rough timescale on how long the move could take from starting point? (We've just started drawing up a list of flats... Would December/January be a reasonable time to aim at?)

Whereabouts in East Sussex are you looking?
| Eastbourne area... There's some really nice looking flats in the Harbour aea near Pevensey at what looks a reasonable £700pm. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Sovereign Harbour is nice - avoid Langney and Shinewater, both of which are fairly close by, like the plauge (the former is more palatable than the latter if you can't avoid them though).
Seaside - hmmm. A lot of 'regeneration' has gone on/is planned, and the area is possibly on the up - but at the moment, it's not particularly pleasant. Similarly areas around Ashford/Pevensey/Langney Road - very central, very close to the best of Eastbourne's (actually pretty good!) nightlife - but bloody grim.
Old Town would probably be out of your price range, but is certainly rather nice. In General
As for Nightlife/Life in Eastbourne in general, check out www.eastmagazine.co.uk , which will quickly become your bible to things going on.
Pub wise; BN21 and Weatherspoons are both cheap, 'plastic pub' places, although the food in both is pretty good and they are cheap. Many a night has been spent queing at BN21, but it's not really a bad venue.
The Glasshouse is a very nice pub, just off Mark Lane, near the main shopping area - quite compact, and gets quite busy and not BN21 etc prices - but worth it. Similarly, Bibendum - up in the Grove Road/Little Chelsea area, quite pricey, more upmarket without a doubt, but a very nice pub (Plenty of posh totty too )
Not sure if you are local or not, so won't go too in depth, but if you are moving into the area from outside, there is plenty more I could tell you Pub/Club/Shopping/Transport wise |

That's great. Thanks for that. I'm spending most of my weekends in Eastbourne at the moment, so i'm slowly getting used to the area and where to go and where not to go!
I'm moving from London, so i'm expecting it to be quite a lot different from where I currently live... But it's the sort of change i'm after.

| Heh - I'm planning the opposite move (albeit from Hailsham).
I like Eastbourne, a lot. There are some cracking bars especially. The closest you'll get to 'London' shopping is Grove Road really, some cracking little shops up there for clothes especially.
Would be interested as to where you like to go out, and where you don't actually
Club wise, I like Kings on a Friday/Saturday, apart from the meathead bouncer who always ID's me. \o/ Cheese-fest \o/. Pubs - as I mentioned, the Greenhouse, Bibendum, BN21 even - not a great fan of the Royal Soveriegn, although it is central.

10k was enough for me to live on in London for the past year, and that was me not being particularly (i.e. at all) sensible with the food/drink budget.

I've spent a lot of time in Hailsham!! Had a free house there for months on every weekend, was pretty cool (shame about some of the local area).
Haven't made it out on too many nights out due to the gf, but have spent quite a lot of afternoons and the odd evening in the Cavalier.. but i'm sure i'd move on from there if the move happens!!

| Aye, some of the local area is grim. As for the Cav - is it still open till about 3am, every night?
Always used to be known for it's lock-ins.

Yeah, seems to be... But there's some right misfits in that place sometimes, I try and stay well away from some of the older guys who are well short of a few sandwiches for their picnics.
