I almost got nicked for that years ago. The copper woke me up, was reassured I had no intention of driving anywhere until morning, told me I could technically get done for drink driving and took the keys off me so if another less sensible officer happened along I couldn't be nicked.
He even arranged for his relief to bring me the keys at 8 o'clock sharp, which he did. Service  </BLOCKQUOTE>
Then he waited until you drove off, then nicked you for drink driving as you were still over the limit? </BLOCKQUOTE>
It was back in the good old days when they realised the economy relied on the hungover being able to drive to work.
