Whereabouts in London is the job?
Commuting up from Eastbourne each day is a total pain. I used to have to do it once a week on average when I lived down there (in the Old Town) and even that was a hassle.
You're much better off moving up there, and there will be plenty of places to share. The question is where to go for, so tell us where your work would be and we can help with the best areas to live to allow you to get there, bearing in mind the cost, neighbourhood, etc.

probably work taking if only for the job experience. financially you will be no worse off (all be it no better off either). it will mean though that after 6 months or whatever, if there is no sign of the money improving (and frankly it wants to), at least you can bandy about your experience and either try to get a higher paid job in london, or at least a job paying more than your current position, but back closer to home.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.
I like that quote from somebody profound.

| Farringdon/- Hatton Garden to be exact - Postcode is EC1N 8JS.
I've found a few websites with flatshares, and am looking at them now, but any help would be much appreciated!
Asked a few people at work today, and without exception, all of them (including my Line Manager), said I'd be mad not to go for it.

Go for it.
You can live on 17.5k a year in London comfortably if you're not too extravagant with certain things. Although as you'd probably be living in Zone 3 or 4, your travel will still be at least £100 a month.

I'm currently wondering whether to get an annual season ticket loan thingy.
Would knock my monthly ticket price down from about £90 (zone 2) to about £77 saving me about £150. However this month I'm being shipped out to Peterborough so will have literally no travel expenses for the next three weeks. Hence making a travel card a waste of money. So there only have to be two months a year when I'm shipped out (likely) for it to not be worth getting an annual season ticket.
However the annual season ticket is bloody useful and will allow me free travel at weekends.
