checked some clips, and if thats the best female comedian out there, its just more evidence for women and comedy not being able to mix. (then again I reckon the standard of Catherine Tate and Little Miss Jocelyn alone should have been enough evidence of that)
whoever said she was better than 99% of men... erm... you're wrong.

Acou, She's not particularly great, though i'd say she's ten times better than tate and Little miss Jocelyn as she's not particularly bad either. Has her funny moments, but for the most part its a very average humour. Definitely not better than 99% of men though.
With regards to Women and comedy not being able to mix, there are very few great female comedians. I'd say Joan Rivers is one of, if not the funniest female stand ups.

Well if you're counting all men, including humourless, deaf, dumb, retarded, and dead men, then she might be funnier than around 40%.

Agree with most of that Gregg. Silverman isn't awful, but she's extremely average.
I dont know why it is, but I've seen many female comedians now, and whether it be stand up, improv, sketch show, or sitcom format... almost every single one has been terrible. Largely I've found it to be resulting from a combination of lacking original material and also any particular skill in delivering it.

i've found it's due to stand up comedy being such a shitty old boy's club for most of its history

When I go watch standup the only thing worse than a random woman appearing on stage, is a random comedian appearing on stage... with a guitar.
'Funny' songs on acoustic guitar are not funny... unless performed by Bill Bailey (who rarely does funny lyric songs anyway).
There are some decent female stand ups - but not many. Women who do general material are usually ok - women who just talk about womens' issues are sh!t generally.

well yes, in the stand-up instance, you may have a point
women might feel they're expected to tell the same old jokes (which they do), I dont know.. but then again its still up to them to brave it and branch out into some fresh material.
also dont think it explains their pathetic attempts at several sketch shows/sit-coms etc

am struggling to think of more than a dozen sitcoms over the last decade that haven't sucked, and at least two (spaced and green wing) were female authored or co-authored. it's hardly surprising the rest sucked.
was at edinburgh during the festival, depressing how many female comedians were using sex to sell their shows, but not surprising
josie long and sarah kendal are both awesome though

similar topic, that Ronni Ancona p*sses me right off
Alastair McGowan show... alright its not great.. but at least he does pretty good voices, hers all sound the f**king same. Surely that immediately makes her a complete failure as its an IMPRESSIONS show.
