not sure what you mean by the puzzles detracting from it? otherwise it wouldn't really be a 'game' and you'd just be moving from place to place in order to further what would basically be a movie. unless by 'puzzles' you mean the occasional localised atomic problem, like that weird machine thing in the petrified forest which i remember having trouble with.

To be honest the only reason I play Grim Fandango is for the dialogue but I can stomach logical puzzles like knocking the sailor out cold with that 'special ingredient'. It made sense, it was a diversion.

Having to drive a mini car around the place, or move a wheel barrow around to blow up a ****ing tree (etc) was just meh. I must have spent days on things like that and all I really wanted to enjoy was the smart ass dialogue and the plot.

I got the demo on a PC Pro CD years back. Would love to play the full game one of these days.

That's the one part of the game that gets me every time. I can never remember what the logic is behind it and it doesn't make that much sense.

You have to get the piston thingies on each side moving at exactly the same time, then do the same for the other side...(yeah, I'm a nerd with Grim Fandango).

Great game, the puzzles really made me think whilst the story and soundtrack were awesome too. Although I don't think it's quite as good as the Monkey Islands.
