Default Take my through the processes involved with being an FM Researcher

I'm incredibly intruiged with whats involved in being a club researcher for FM. It's pretty staggering to think that all the data from a specific club comes mainly from one person. I think NickOGS and Father Senegal are the most recognised researchers on OTF so if anyone can enlighten me on what the job involves, how you come up with the stats, any perks apart from receiving your free copy of FM and the amount of work involved it would be appreciated

It's awesome

If you're taking over rather than starting anew, there's usually a wealth of data the previous reseracher has already assembled. It's then a case of doing a lot of research via the net to augment what you personally know (helpful on staff, youth players especially).

I did Ipswich for a year or two

Zaitsev's got it right, mostly it's bringing stats into line with what's happening in the real world right now, particularly with regards to youth prospects who may or may not be showing the predicted talent that their Current/Peak Ability shows in the database.

Then there's other things like keeping in touch with comings and goings at the club, for instance ensuring that if one of your players is transferred out, the researcher in charge of his new team is made aware of him and his abilities.

Was very enjoyable, but time constraints stopped me from doing it in the last couple of years, mainly because I'm at a point where I'm trying to do lots of work for cash, so I'm having to let some of the freebies slide

When i'm doing my stuff my room looks like an absolute bombhole. Programmes from the past 5 or 6 years strewn everywhere, random bits of info scribbled down, encyclopaedias with ripped pieces of paper marking pages etc etc

Oh and going to Reserves games to do research is pretty good too. I quite enjoy that part even though i'm normally there on my own. Normally sit in front of where visiting clubs scouts sit to see what they are muttering about players to each other

Getting youth info is bloody frustrating though. Youth team games arent really open to fans, just parents etc, but thanks to Channel M i'm beggining to get more of an insight
