As for the drinking at 12 thing, I think his dad lets him drink within reason because he doesnt fit in with anyone else and is a weirdo?

Every family has the weird ones, right? My family is all weird ones, though. My father's into shamanic crap, mother's got about 18 mental illnesses and was warned by her priest about loving Elvis too much. She went on to dump my father when I was 6, marry her cousin, have lots of weird inbred kids. Possibly not fitting in in my family is a good thing.
