On another note, never buy anything from WH Smith either. Their ink cartridges may sound sexy at buy one get one half price, but when then charge ten pounds more than Sainsburys anyway, it just ain't worth it. Also helped that the lady at Sainsburys is infinitely more fitter than any working at Smiths.
| Not down here she's not the bird in sainsburys is about 600 years old </BLOCKQUOTE>Unlucky. We seem to do very well for checkout dollies here

although i seem to be in the minority, I bought my Pc from there 9 months ago and its working fine, had no problems at all, and they gave me £200 off the PC for getting it without a monitor, when the one it came with can't have been worth more than £100

The finance company is liable. Sale of Goods Act etc etc.
Do some googling as I can't be arsed, but fundamentally you can phone them and tell them you're rejecting the PC as unfit for purpose. All shall be refunded

Had some trouble myself with PC World and a faulty laptop. Generally found if you want smoething sorting out you're better ringing the head office number before taking anything in store as they never ever be able to sort anything out for you there. They either give you a phone number to ring ir give you some lame excuse why they cant deal with things.
Took 6 weeks to have our laptop 'repaired'. When i asked them to replace it they said it wasn't in warranty despite it breaking during their warranty period and them being unable to fix it and it wasn't within the store's 'jurisdiction' to offer replacements. After demanding someone whos jurisdiction it is, through a head office number I got it sorted and found thats the best route to be honest.
Good luck sorting things out.

I used to work with someone who used to work for Mastercare who are the repair arm of Dixons and PC World.
Since hearing about their repair practices I decided never to buy anything from Dixons or PC World that would have to be repaired by Mastercare if it went wrong.
Basically if they can't fix it first go it then sits on a shelf for months until someone else has a look at it.
As for Dell they are almost as bad. The company I work for brought a laptop from them and it's screen flickered all the time. When ringing Dell up I got through to an obviously Indian call centre and someone who was just reading a script. Then it had to be sent back to them for them to repair it and when it came back it was still faulty, they obviously did nothing to it.
Again I had to ring them did exactly the same thing two more times and on the third time it went back it was "lost in transit" and they eventually gave a refund.

I've had to ring up the PC World warranty people about a laptop I got from them. The first guy I talked to was a joke. It was clearly a mechanical fault with the DVD writer, but he insisted on talking me through reinstalling the drivers. After half an hour he said he wouldn't be able to do anything until I try a complete system recovery and call back.
Eventually got it booked for them to collect it for repair (tomorrow). Thing is, the warranty is now expired (although it hadn't when I reported the fault the other week) and the fault itself is intermittent and not always demonstrable. In for a long haul here I think. |
