Anyway I doubt they get much inspiration to feel patriotic when the England crowd get on their back simply for not singing.

maybe a big difference is that the hardcore england football fans are largely complete arseholes, while the rugby fans are generally a lot more respectable and likeable.
i mean, if i was turning out to play football in front of a load of red faced rabid lunatics, p1ssed off their shitty little faces and employing a ridiculous ****ing brass band, i'd be more inclined to say "**** you" and then refuse to play again if they got on my back for some pathetic reason.
whereas with the rugby, i don't think you get the same level of abuse hurled at players from the fans, or the same level of hooliganism. it would spur me on more to be in front of a crowd of supporters who actually could spell their own name and who looked like relatively respectable people.

| I think you're under the impression many footballers care about the fans.

Horses for courses really and i don't want to get into this argument yet again. I enjoy watching league from time to time and admittedly there are players with a lot of skill, but for me, Union is the better game, could give various reasons as to why I personally believe that, but a) i've been down that road before numerous times and b) it's 1:30am.

almost wholeheartedly agree on the 'rugby fans > football fans' point, although there are some occasions where the tribal nature of supporting a football team is pretty f**king special
