If you don't mind me be nosey, mark, have you had experience with this too? You seem quite informative and have been a great help with your information. As I said, at this moment in time I'm not brave enough to go looking at sites as I don't want to be faced with the usual statistics that inevitably pop up on these sites. The Onco mentioned being male has a slight impact on the prognosis statistics as do other factors such as the usual i.e. staging, success of the first treatment et al. He did mention that unlike other cancers, though, staging isn't as important in Lymphoma as it is with other malignancies. He warned me before the PET scan and bone marrow test if it did come back stage iv, it would still have been treatable and not to go reading up about stage IV cancers as it has no baring on this particular condition.

| I work at the christie hospital in manchester, which is a specialist cancer centre. I'm not a medic, but obviously you pick stuff up, and it's given me a vested interest to read up more. Most of the clinical stuff i've said in here i've had to go and check up on, though, i'm in no way an expert.
On NHL specifically, in my previous job here i had a small involvement in clinical trials on the radioactive labelled monoclonal antibodies i mentioned, and i was also quite involved in our PET scanning service.

I think you are being very unfair Mark.
I know from my discussions with you and just from the work that you do, that you have a real expertise in this. Perhaps not on the clinical side but most certainly in nuclear medicine.
Your views are greatly knowledgable and I certainly see you as a valued source of wisdom on nuclear medicine.

He does seem to know what he's talking about and whether he thinks it or not, he's helped to a certain extent by showing me it's not all doom and gloom.

| Is Paypal OK for that tenner, or do you want a cheque?
i appreciate your comments, but while i'm happy to say i know what i'm talking about when it comes to Nuclear Medicine, and i'm reasonably up on Radiology generally (even though i don't work in those areas any more), queries on here tend to be of a clinical nature, where my specific knowledge is technical.
So while i'm happy to contribute, i don't want people thinking i have clinical knowledge that i don't actually have, or taking what i say with any less scepticism than they would use on any other subject.

There's still a huge element of people hearing "cancer" and thinking "death sentence" straight away. While that's completely understandable, cancer is in reality a huge number of effectively different conditions, many of which are eminently curable, or that at the very least have significant treatments available to prolong life greatly. Just to take your case, you've been diagnosed with Lymphoma, which can either be Hodgkins disease, or non-Hodgkins. But then withing NHL, there are two main types, B-Cell or T-Cell, and within each of those a number of different variations which are treated in different ways.
There are also new and innovative treatments coming up all the time. While they are generally publicised to some degree, they often don't get quite the publicity or acclaim they might, as the media and the public are still to some extent fixated on the magic bullet of "a cure for cancer", which is extremely unlikely in even the mid term, if ever, due to the varying nature of the different diseases.
That's with the exception of those that don't get approved immediately by NICE of course, whereby the opposite becomes true and they become a wonder drug that has miraculous properties, regardless of their true effectiveness.

Did that myself on Thursday, they had to give me an enema as they tried on sunday and it gave me a violent reaction. On the pot for most of the day.

I didn't have any problems with the metal tasting stuff they gave me, although I felt like I was sucking on a spoon.
I've only been for one CT scan but I presume you would need to take it every time as it shows up on the scan.
