It's likely somebody thought "hey, The Masters series is popular, so is the Match, why don't we combine the two? But, that'll be a little too obvious, so what if we allow fans to play too? MAGNIFICENT"

It's not, it's utterly utterly dreadful "entertainment". I'd rather watch Keyser and BBB in naked mud wrestling than this tbh.

I think as a bit of entertainment its pretty good. Quite amusing watching the frustration of the legends grow and grow as the celebs and public players miss easy chances and mis control all sorts.
