I was watching some movie entertainment thing the other day and they were talking up this film. They showed a clip and it wasnt all that funny at all.

Usually they try to put the good bits in the clips, kinda make you want to watch it. Maybe they bigged it up too much about how "hilarious" it is.

they are probably just not that funny in isolation, but in the context of the movie the clips I'd seen seemed a lot funnier. The characters (esp Seth) are just fantastic and you can't really show that in an ad.
