I can do infinitely more good staying where I am and working in a decent job than going to Chad and living in a ramshackle shed for a few years whilst attempting to effect some sort of good carrying around a mindset of warped benevolence and altruism.
In answer to the original question, my sister volunteered through our church to work in Rwanda for a month. She was involved solely in programs run by my church, orphanages, concerts, women's shelter and HIV clinics.
