Bert:
Inviting companies into the island gives a global exposure that can then be exploited. Tax isnt one of them, rather trying to prop up a failing tourism industry with a fiancial one.
We pay VAT because Jersey M&S prices for example not only are at UK prices but attract a further 5% carriage cost. A lot of other companies just quite UK price and make it stupidly hard to recover the VAT.
The second point, before the state is willing to lend a hand you will have paid over £50K or €70K in the first three years
£1400 (its closer to £1600 for the first year) * 12 * 3 = 50,400.

Like Gibraltar then? Tax free but shipping costs mean the prices are the same anyway? Fact of life on an island, I'd say.
Still not with you on the inviting companies bit - where's the profit in having global exposure if the reason you have it is that you let them in for free?
The second point now has me more confused than ever. Before you get any state benefits you have to be filthy rich?

| No, in any case you will have to have contributed £50K to nursery costs no matter what your status in the first three years.
so do you stay at home to offset the income tax (20%) on the 17K you d have to earn before making a 1p profit?
Cost of living is significantly higher than a simple "shipping" 5% tax as Ive point out above (read 40% fish (ironic that we are an island), meat 14%, fruit 20% and an RPI 11% above the UK)).
If you let the banks go to the IoM then you cannot tax the customer. Its not about corporations. The eUSd for example changed all that. http://www.gov.je/TreasuryResources/...ingsDirective/
20 means 20 http://www.gov.je/TreasuryResources/...Tax/20means20/
GST http://www.gov.je/TreasuryResources/IncomeTax/GST/ |

The necessity for a level of contributions applies only to immigrants?
RPI is 11% above UK but VAT puts that 6.5% below UK, no?
You're basically at war with the IoM? You have the weather but they have the driving. I'll have to sit that one out.

No immigrants get it worse because they cannot buy but have to rent for at leats 16 years.
then again, before ITIS (sortof PAYE) came in, they could just work 9months a year and bugger off without paying taxes.

And as mentioned, we already get hit with VAT prices in a number of local stores. so its more like VAT + 11%.

I'd still you rather debated my previous points on 0/10, GST and cost of living that somehow agrees with your remark that we are 5* more affluent overall than the average UK person?
