The ***** company's Customer Service isn't open outside of office hours apparently
which doesn't surprise me in the least...

All retailers hate customers that turn up at the end of the day and expect them to bend over backwards.
Mainly due to the people who think if they get in the door 1 minute before closing it gives them the right to stay as long as they want.

When I was manager of GAME i would let the staff lock the door at 5.15, so by 5.30 everyone would be out. Staff only got paid up until 5.30, but with all the cleaning up of the store that needed doing would leave until 6
They were all on £5.35 an hour. |

To be honest, Gamestation have annoyed me with sheer lack of knowledge before now too - I went into the Eastbourne store a while back, not knowing what recent PC Games had come out, and asked if there was anything similar to Elite.
"What's Elite?" Was the reply I got from the troll behind the counter.
I could have launched into a tirade about not knowing your gaming heritage, and how everything was better in the days of 8-Bits, Cassette tapes and 15 minute load times, but I decided against it |

He works in a shop on what is probably around minimum wage.
Not sure not knowing your gaming history is a crime in that situation.

| While I appreciate that, I have used my time at Focus to improve my DIY skills and general knowledge in that subject area - I appreciate that it's not everyone's cup of tea to develop extra knowledge, but not knowing what one of the classic games of all time is about is somewhat daft, IMHO.

Whilst I agree to a certain extent d_s, it's always good to get someone that knows what they're talking about, it is impossible to be bale to give advice on every genre. I know what you're going to say, Elite is seminal and should be known by everyone but it was made in 1984, there's a good chance the guy you spoke to wasn't born in 1984. Which do you think is more useful for their day-to-day work, knowing which games the kids are buying and when the big games are out this year or knowing about Elite? I worked in a game shop for 3 and a half years and no-one ever asked about it.
On-topic, shop staff were always paid until 6 so we could sort the place out before tomorrow. Anytime they stayed later they were paid for it. Zante just sounds like a twat from that post.

| Fair enough
I know about having to stay later than you are paid for though - at work, if you are on a late, you have to stay until the duty manager has cashed up and locked up. Fair enough - but you are paid until 8, and this can, depending on who is manager for the night, take up to 30 minutes.
What is frustrating is that the one person who opens up with the duty manager in the morning has to start at half 7 - and gets paid for that extra half hour.

back in the day, my shift used to start at 8:30 and my manager said "get here 15 minutes early so we can set up"
"are you going to pay me from quarter past?"
"no, the hours are 8:30 - 5:30"
"see you at half past then"
I used to turn up at 8:29 on the dot for every shift. I told him I'd be more than willing to get there for quarter past if he paid me. didn't see why I should work for free?
