But . . .

Shop closes at 5.30, then THAT is when they shut the door, not before.
Any other concerns that arise from that is between the employer and employees, and definitely NOT the customer, who has every right to expect a shop that closes at 5.30 to still be open at 10 past.

the reason why the door says the close at 5.30 is because they close at 5.30. which means people currently in the shop have until 5.30. they can still stop people coming in wiht 10 mins to go so they can shut the shop on time.

shop closes door at 5.30 but they get 7 people that want to come in at 5.25 all shopping, it's a bugger to get them all out, so stop them coming in in the first place.

and they are open. just not to new customers

this is a wide spread practise. you may not like it. i may not like it if it affects me but it happens and we can't do much about it.
they can turn away any one they like. its private property.

well on the point of staff and working hours- 99.9% of jobs you are expected to be ready to work at a certain time and finish actually working at a specific time. it's not the case if you are paid to work till 5:30 thats the literal time you can walk out of the building.

I've only done one job where you literally dropped what you were doing and walked out at your finish time- that was on stock market where when market closed you effectively had nothing left to do- so you walked out straight away.
