the truth of the matter, possibly taking a little arrogance away, is the guy was running a hustle on me.

imagine if you will a time when a pack of generic smokes only cost $1.80.

this douchebag would come in and buy a tin of kippered snacks for $1.09 (the only item we had at that price) and pay for it with $2 in food stamps.

he'd come back later in the day and make the same purchase, collecting the change and leaving.

then he'd show up just before my shift ended and buy a pack of smokes and pay me off with quarters and dimes. the second time he tried this, I yelled at him and called him a bum in front of all my customers and ran him out of the store.

I heard he called in a complaint against me, but I don't know if anyone ever cared because I was busy with another complaint after kicking out two teenage unwed mothers.

those were the days.
