Port v West Coast tonight. You can write off Sydney for the finals now - Kennelly is out of the side, and Jolly is wanting to return to Victoria.

Port Adelaide 9.14 (68) dftd West Coast 9.11 (65)

Terrible first half, great second half West Coast looked set for the win, pulling away by over three goals in a low-scoring game, but Port made a great last-quarter fightback.

West Coast now look in deep trouble, with Chris Judd looking like a hundred-year-old man as he limped off the ground and Cousins doing his hamstring (prompting the commentary line "He's going for the ice", which has caused a bit of trouble). They play the winner of Collingwood v Sydney, while Port gets a week off.

Today, it's two cutthroat games - Hawthorn v Adelaide and Collingwood v Sydney.

I'm rabid, fanatical Hawthorn - travelled to Sydney last week and couldn't see how we'd get anywhere near the Crows after the ineptitude at the SCG.

Well.

Crawford's first quarter was one of the best individual quarters of footy I've seen, until Hodge comes along and goes 14 times better in the last, astonishing. Franklin is amazing, Roughead will keep getting better and Boyle did little, it'd be nice to see more from him. Campbell Brown eats raw meat for breakfast and Grant "Winston" Birchall has the head of a 35 year old on his 19 year old body.

I was so sick today I almost didn't go (which would have been my first game missed in Melbourne for about 4 years). Suffice to say, happy I did, I just wish I was still with all my mates smugly smashing cans in the city somewhere right now.

YES HAWKS

Difficult to even get near the game here, time difference is a pain, and I couldn't listen online via the AFL site

Hawthorn 15.15 (105) dftd Adelaide 15.12 (102)

Collingwood 18.17 (125) dftd Sydney 13.9 (87)

Amazing. That was like a lowlights reel, highlighting all the flaws in the Sydney side in just one game. The worst thing is, they've been blatantly obvious for a while. For instance:

Bevan: If his skills don't let him down, his decisions do. Why would you EVER pass to Mathews in an overhead marking contest, let alone in defence? And what the hell is he doing getting 9 marks from 11 possessions. That is the sign of a go-to person out of defence, and somebody with such poor skills should never be used in that role.
Everitt: So having punched the ball through when he didn't need to, in this game he goes for a mark when he should punch, costing us a goal (as opposed to a point which proved to be the difference in the other game). So next time he goes for the punch...straight to an opponent. Please, never let him near the defensive goal line. In fact, don't put him on the field at all.
Selections: Okay, so you want to keep Dempster in for team balance? Great. He shouldn't have been dropped in round 17 anyway. But why would you leave out one of our few attacking midfielders, Buchanan, when you have so many defensive ones – Bevan, McVeigh, Crouch, Mathews, Kirk, Bolton... Without Kennelly, we need all the flair and run we can get, and leaving Buchanan out was foolish.
McVeigh: Did stuff all yet again. Maybe three good games this season – just not enough.
Barry: You're not 25. Trying to create out of defence is a nice idea, especially with Kennelly not around, but you just can't run away from any opponent under 100kg any more.
Key defenders: Yet again we were carved up by bigger, stronger opponents. I could understand that happening with LRT out, but that's exactly what he's there for – to provide some bulk in the backline. Admittedly, it doesn't help when there is so many opportunities created for them, which is what having so many defensive midfielders is supposed to prevent.
Davis: Had some great games this year, but also has the tendency to go missing. Why not move him into the middle?
Umpires: Not Sydney's fault per se, but a constant factor against us.

Anyway, well done to Collingwood and Hawthorn.

Next week, it's an injury-hit West Coast vs Collingwood, and Hawthorn vs the loser of Geelong vs Kangeroos. It's funny that at the start of this season, everyone was bleating about the Victorian sides being totally dominated by the interstate teams. In the first week of the finals, two Victorian teams knocked out interstate teams!

How utterly horrid was the end of the Adelaide game?

So long, Roo. You are a champion.
