Played Cats, deserved it
Right so knowing nothing about AFL as its my first 'half' season as following it, what happens now, or is that it until Round 1 in March

| Ah, now we get to the good stuff!
Trade week starts next Monday, and with arguably the best player in the competition up for grabs, that should be brilliant.
After that, there's the delistings and retirements which haven't happened yet (still waiting on Buckley and Grant, IIRC), then the main draft in November and rookie & pre-season drafts a few weeks later.

| This is the part where, if the rumours are to be believed, it all goes Pete Tong for Hawthorn.
But yeah, trade week and the draft are really good, Hawthorn needs a small forward to pick up the crumbs (or knockdowns from marking contests) from our big forward like Franklin, Roughead, Boyle et al. There's the son of an ex-player called Cyril Rioli Jr, he'll be exactly what we need if he stays around long enough till our pick (number 12). Best still, his nickname is Junior Boy, which is about the best thing ever. I'm getting t-shirts made up if we get him.

He's not eligible for father-son?
There'll be a fight between Essendon and Sydney for Darcy Danniher as a father-son selection.
Have the new rules for this come in yet? IIRC the club trying to sign him under father-son has to match the highest "bid" in terms of which round the player goes, but I'm not sure if that starts this season or later.

Yeah, the bidding system starts this year. And I was wrong, he's Maurice's nephew - Cyril Sr. only played for St Mary's in NT and a bit of WAFL.

Geez, this season just keeps getting more remarkable. Chris Grant, Camporeale and Heffernan retired, Judd has chosen Carlton, the St Kilda board has resigned, the Essendon board survived a challenge and Eagles legend Chris Mainwaring died of a heart attack after an apparent bender at 41...
