Default A boring, serious question about job hunting

ola, i've just started uni and i'm looking for a part time job to go along side it, so i've done my cv, and i was just going to go into a few places (mostly banks, offices) tomorrow and ask to hand them to the manager, so, would a cover letter to go with them be a good idea, i was thinking something like this

Quote:
*me*
*my address*
*my tel no*

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is *name*, I am currently looking for a part time job whilst I attend Aston University and I feel I would be a very useful addition to your team.

I would ask you to please take a moment of your time to have a look through my CV, and have a look at the experience I have gained during my previous 5 years of work, in such places as *council, bank and abroad for a year*, each of which helped improve my skills in various kinds of work.

Ideally I would be looking for a customer service or an administration based job, but I would be interested to hear what you have to offer.

I thank you for your time and hope for a response.

*name*
hope that worked properly

is that a good idea? any problems/suggestions anyone can think of?

ta

you see, that means nothing to me, i just thought it'd take up less room, although you're probably right, taking them a printout of a forum page is EXACTLY what i was thinking of doing

best bet is to sign on with some agencies surely? dropping into CVs on spec will just see loads of places promising to "keep it on file", and you'll never hear from them again.

aston

might be an idea to expand on your skills/experience a tiny bit for the letter. don't go overboard though because they can get the main bulk of it from your cv but just effectively saying "look at my cv mkay" will most likely result in the letter and cv being filed in the bin
