We (the 'Boro) have a youth player who is on an acadamy contract which runs out at the seasons end, he so far hasnt and doesnt look like he will be signing a pro deal.
If he moves to another English coub then the compensation would be decided by a tribunal, but my question is what if he moved to a club abroad, would the club be entitled to compensation?
im not sure, because Chris Porter ( used to play for Oldham ) moved to a scottish club at the end of last season and his new club didn't have to pay compensation ( despite him being under 24 ) because it wasnt in the country he was moving from.
by 'not signing' , do you mean he has been offered a deal and is refusing to sign it, or has not been offered a contract?
as i understand it, he can become a free agent first (at the end of his contract), and then move to another club without them having to pay any compensation, as he is not being taken from the team he leaves. not sure if this is strictly true or not, but i dont see how a club can be forced to pay any other if the player has already left, and therefore is not under contract to them anyway? however, if he has been offered a pro deal and is refusing to sign because he has been told he will be given a deal somewhere he might prefer to be, with or without having actually signed a contract with them, probably would result in compensation as the club would have been the factor in him not signing pro with you (if he was offered a deal)

Exactly the same thing happened at Crewe. Michael Higdon joined Falkirk on a free and they didn't have to pay compensation (not that he's worth any money).
