You'd be surprised. Good counsel, interesting witnesses or the particular circumstances can make any matter engrossing, while even the most serious crimes can make boring trials - try sitting through four days of DNA evidence, for instance.
Jury service sounds awful. Getting scared about the prospect, I was looking up how long it can take I read this: "The jurors on the Jubilee Line fraud trial sat for almost two years before the case collapsed in May 2005"
