I read a novel by a German author (Frank Baer) that plays in Spain in the 11th century. Called Die Brücke von Alcantara (The bridge at Alcantara).
In those days, the Jews, Arabs and Spanish were all more or less equally powerful in Iberia, hence forced to coexist more or less peacefully. Good book. Don't know if it's available in English.

it took almost 800 years for the Catholics to reconquer iberia afaik.

| Not quite, they were only here for 750 years. And Iberia was never conquered anyway, just most of it.
