Default Emotional attachments to particular events

Ever witnessed an event that didn’t affect you directly, but you still had a great sense of emotional attachment?

9/11, London Tube Bombings, Madeleine McCann, Tsunami, Princess Di, Hillsborough, Charles de Menezes, The Littlest Hobo, Ken Bigley, Rhys Jones?

Which events have pulled at your heartstrings and have any affected you to doing something you wouldn’t do normally (make a donation, boycott a product etc.)?

Can’t think any of these have had an effect on me, maybe since I’m not directly linked to any of them, or maybe because I’m just dead inside.

A news story about some kid getting gunned down doesn’t have ay effect, but a story about someone putting a cat in the microwave will make me quite angry.

I donated money to help out after the Tsunami, mainly because i used to live in part of the area that was hit by it.

Nothing like that really, like you suggest in your last sentence, news stories about kids being murdered or eathquakes killing 2,000 people etc just don't bother me in the slightest.

I remember 9/11 and the Princess Di death very well. The London Tube Bombings didn't affect me emotionally as much as those two for some reason.

I tend to get angry when people spout sh*te about Hillsborough, in a way I wouldn’t do about other disasters.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is Challenger which happened on my 10th Birthday (we went to see Back to the Future).

Generally though, from Bigley to Bhopal I'm dead inside. Curiosity is the standard emotion.

I remember when the Tsunami happened there was huge support towards funding and it got to the point where you were seen as a bit of a twat if you didn’t make a donation (seem to recall there being a thread on here asking how much people had given).

I didn’t have nay problems with people making donations, but couldn’t agree with people practically being forced to give something.

The wars in the Balkans got me quite wound up. How we sat around lloking for excuses to do nothing while people died daily in a place where they were apparently just like us.

And 9/11, that was just awesome. On the day I thought I was watching 20,000 New Yorkers dying on live TV. Unbelievable.

Not really been affected by much but the Bradford fire knocked the crap out of me when I saw footage of that a while back.

I was watching 9/11 and the London Bombings 'live' and it didnt really seem to affect me that much, not sure why. Same with the Tsunami
