Default The taxman strikes!!!

Had some bad news today. It seems me and my partner were overclaiming for a while.

A mistake has been made at the tax office, their mistake i might add, and now our Childcare payments have gone from £600 to £77 in one swoop! They didn't take into account both our wages!!! Even though we phoned and confirmed this with them

Can they do this? £500 is alot of money to suddenly make up every month.

They can do what they want.

My dad recently got a tax bill for £700 as they thought he hadnt been paying the right tax. Luckily he knows alot about that sort of stuff and knew they were in the wrong. Sent a letter off and it was sorted. But even tho it would have been their mistake they still would have wanted the money

assuming you are a PAYE employee, contact your local tax office.

Yeah. Until May. Then it'll go up to £310. Might try and ask if we can pay it back over a longer period of time.

If its their fault they should come to some repayment plan that suits both parties

Happens every year to thousands of parents, overpayments are becoming shockingly common.
