A mistake has been made at the tax office, their mistake i might add, and now our Childcare payments have gone from £600 to £77 in one swoop! They didn't take into account both our wages!!! Even though we phoned and confirmed this with them
Can they do this? £500 is alot of money to suddenly make up every month.
| Not only can they do it, if they make a mistake they can claim interest on it as well.

of course they can, it's not your money. Though they'll probably work with you on a repayment plan.
When we were overpaid we simply got a letter saying that we'd not get any further payments for 3 years. So in effect they just gave us the money upfront.
We've stuck it in a high interest account and are not touching it in case they change their minds and ask for it back.

One, two, three, four...
Hrmm!
One, two, (one, two, three, four!)
Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
(if you drive a car, car - I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold - I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk - I'll tax your feet.
Taxman!
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
And you're working for no one but me.
Taxman!

Child Tax Credits are a ****ing **** sysytem
Having to Declare my partners an my taxable income every year is a Joke,
there the Revenue and Customs, they've got my NI number and a record of all the Tax I paid last year somewhere in that building
Surely They have a better Idea of How much I earned last year than I do
And the wording on the form, get it right or we're comming after you and make you pay everything back FFS

I thought that the Govt had made a decision to not claim back any of the overpayments. Not sure if this is it.... |
