well i can say "sorry i dont speak spanish" in spanish. doesnt mean I'm fluent in it

well, we've already proven that he didn't say mate, and it's not hard to say "i don't speak x language, sorry" especially when you spend all your time in a multilingual dressing room, so please stop

I can say 'Je ne parle pas Francais' perfectly well thanks.

As Italian is based nearly totally in Latin, which in turn is the base for most European languages, I wouldn't be surprised if he could say English words with a good degree of accuracy.
