It's about putting the fans (Who actually bother to go to the matches) first rather than the TV companies and the armchair fans.
They're in the minority though. Don't agree with it myself, but you can see where they're coming from.

the armchair fans
Outnumber the 'real' fans by an enormous amount. Without them and their money, most English teams wouldn't be able to poach foreign players left right and center. Be careful who you diss...

All our sport over in Australia is like that.
Then there's things like staying in and wanting to watch Soccer Saturday or MoTD, which'll be pretty pointless today for Premier League fans. </BLOCKQUOTE>

yes, that's absolutely the reason we have Saturday 3pm kick offs - so the nice people watching Sky Sports News get to 'see' all the games kicking off at once.

I know that's not the reason, but it's a pain in the arse, esp when I was a kid and I couldn't go to games, I'd just watch Football Focus followed by the Vidiprinter all day Saturday, and if I was lucky I'd get to stay up and watch MoTD. TV football is now all about the guy in the pub instead, rather than the kids at home, who probably get a lot more of excitement out of it.

DJ is right. Unfortunately those who go to games could way down the list in terms of priorities. TV runs football now and it's just going to get worse IMO.

sadly, it's probably only a matter of time before the powers that be cave and allow Sky to show games at 3pm on Saturdays anyway. then you can kiss goodbye to lower league football altogether.

But DJ is only right because we're all a bunch of spineless sheep.

Everyone knows that the fans will keep going regardless, so as a result their feelings are the least important. The TV viewers are more fickle, and need to be appeased to part with their money on a regular basis so their feelings get priority.

Plus there's the financial side of it - The TV revenue vastly outweighs the gate money, I know. But that's not the whole story.

Personally I don't have Sky Sports as I refuse to pay nigh-on £50 per month for it but I'm not that bothered about the times of the matches as I work funny hours myself. Often what's a strange time to the Mon-Fri, 9 to 5 crowd will fit in just nicely for myself. Take this weekend - I'm in work right now through until 8pm but I'll be fine for the Newcastle match tomorrow.

Saturdays aren't the same when there are hardly any prem games tbh I wish there was 8-9 games on at 3pm on a Saturday and just one on a Sunday/possibly another one on the Monday
