That is true, but he had a 10 point lead last week now is losing by 6 points

whatever the opinion polls said yesterday, there's no way the Tories would have won a majority...even with the boundry changes.

Also in the News Of The World Poll it said that Labour would lose the popular vote but would still win with a reduced majority. He would lose but would look a complete fool. His advisors never really should have tried to promote the election as much as they did but at this time Brown has made the right choice.
