I did this one summer when I was student, was weird during the day to wear about three layers whilst inside, only to walk outside and die from the heat.

It's boring and I was thrown in at the deep end when I first started, didn't really have a clue where everything was and everyone else bar one in my team were Polish.

I very much doubt you will be able to listen to your mp3 player whilst doing this, health and safety and all.

well, just an hour ago my girlfriend told me about someone who did the same job, not far from where I have to work. she told me he just listened to his ipod all night, and was allowed a break of 15 mins for every hour work to heat up. doesn't sound all that bad, surely it can't be that cold.

Don't underestimate working in a freezer type environment. It will be cold. You will appreciate breaks to heat up.

It might have been sensible to ask the agency when they phoned you about the job really

I would imagine it is cold. Whatever is in the freezer would not doubt be in there to be 'frozen' so you can expect it to be a bit nippy !

should've asked them, but didn't think of it: what is an orderpick system? sounds complicated.
Nothing complicated about cold store work.

Just remember to keep moving, or you'll freeze.

It's a long way from the worst job in the world as you get to exercise both your mind and muscles.
Muscles, I can understand that. The mind ? How, ffs ?

Place I was order picking was a bloody huge warehouse

With usually upwards of 70 different products each of differing amounts on order
from the over 300 different products available

As there were performance bonus's on offer, being able to plan the most efficient route round the warehouse on the fly and being able to amend that plan to avoid having to wait for a forklift to fill an empty bay was an essential skill

Stinks of effort, that. :herman:

Never got a "performance bonus" where I worked, though.
More a bonus like "You can come to work tomorrow if you want."
"Saturday ?"
"Yeah".
"No, tyvm".
