I was asking here some months ago some information about Bradford Univ and Middlesex University. A lot of people told me to avoid Middlesex University for a some reasons. However i joined Middlesex univ for other personal reasons and i have to say is not that bad as how some people describe the univ. The facilities are very good, the teaching staff is helpful. I don't get it why this univ is considered so low rated.

Look my friend, first of all i am a foreign student and my mother tongue is not English. However i saw English-speaking persons to make worst mistakes than this.

More seriously, it's not clear that "the teaching staff is helpful" is wrong, because "staff" can be thought of as a single group or as a number of individuals. If a number of teachers are being helpful as individuals then I'd go for "the teaching staff are helpful"; if the teachers are working together to be helpful then I'd use your phrase.
