I've removed my hard drive from my laptop, connected it up to my desktop, but because I set a password on my account on the laptop I'm getting an access denied message when I try and get into my documents..... How can I over ride this?

It also says there's 0 bytes in there too which can't be true. Is that because of the password thing? I know the password if that helps.

Go into properties of the folder and under the security tab there is an option to take ownership of it..

I can access everything I've tried apart from

Documents and Settings - > Joe J-M

Which is what I need and I get the message:

Can you not just go back on to the laptop and copy everything into a new folder?

There is no security tab in properties.

Just General, Sharing and Customize.

If you are using XP professional you will need to disable simple file sharing...if you are using xp home I think you have to boot into safe mode.

If you aren't using either of them then im not sure..

Its because a UID is unique in a windows environment , in fact its unique in the known universe.

Thus your premissions do not include this UID as it has no notion in the SAM database in windows on the new machine.

As mentioned, if you are in XP Home then you need safe mode.
